All tools on Canvas Generation are shared under a Creative Commons license. This makes it easy to see what you can and can’t do with a canvas.

Did you know that about 95% of the Canvases use the same license? The Creative Commons Attribution – Share Alike 4.0 International license

We blaim Business Model Generation with their first Business Model Canvas ;). The success of this canvas inspired a lot of visual thinkers world wide. Because Business Model Canvas used the Creative Commons Attribution – Share Alike license, it basically encouraged people and businesses around the world to talk about it in blogposts, share their own business model, or integrate it into their services. The ‘attribution’ part of the license gave the creators the spotlight they deserved. Sharing something with the world served as a channel which lead to sales of books and services.

At Wedesignthinking we are a big fan of this license. It feels very fair to share work in a free manner that encourages people to use and improve it while getting proper acknowledgement and attribution in return. All of the canvases created by (and for) us are also shared under the Creative Commons Attribution – Share Alike 4.0 International license. So feel free to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the canvases in any medium or format
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the canvases for any purpose, even commercially

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
  • ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

Also, if you help us translate our tools into your native language, we will give you the credit you deserve.
